Essential oils, or ethereal oils, are substances in liquid form, extracted by distillation from plants, using parts of them: flowers, leaves, fruits. They have therapeutic properties that have been identified and described since ancient times and are successfully used to restore well-being. They are used in small quantities, a few drops, either by volatilization or by mixing in carrier oils or vegetable butters.
Some essential oils have analgesic, antiseptic, anti- inflammatory properties: basil, chamomile, cinnamon, sage, copaiba, coriander, eucalyptus, etc.
Other oils are known for their sedative and relaxing properties: fir, lavender, hop flowers, melissa, rose, etc.
Others are tonic and astringent: bergamot, sweet orange, lemon, cloves, coriander, etc.
They can be found in various combinations to obtain complex and cumulative effects.
